Teaching and Research Interests
As program coordinator of Africana Studies, Dr. Gazda synchronizes courses and performs interdepartmental oversight and teaches in the program, as well as in the department of English. Her specialty areas include American Studies, particularly American and African American Literature, the Civil Rights Movement, and postcolonial contact narratives in the US, Caribbean, and South Pacific. Her research interests are interdisciplinary in nature, spanning literature, culture, history, and film studies, a fact supported by her teaching and graduate studies pursuits, as well as presentations at regional and national liberal studies, popular culture, and civil rights conferences, assorted publications, and as a keynote speaker at academic and community events. Dr. Gazda has extensive experience with curriculum and public programming as well as managing multi-million dollar grants.
